Why Is My Computer Running So Slow

The reality is that Windows computers tend to gradually get slower over time. Why is this? What is the cause? Well, it's difficult to say exactly what the cause is for each individual case, however it is known that one of the biggest causes of a slow computer is a cluttered and corrupted Windows registry.

Why Is My Computer Running So Slow

My Computer Runs Slow

When my computer runs slow I try to diagnose it so that I'll know what's wrong and then try to find solutions. There are various causes that would make computer systems run slower than tolerable. One of which, to begin with, is slow start-up. If I find that my computer runs perfectly fine except during start-up, then I would conclude that there are simply too many programs that are loading, one after the other, during start-up. If so, then I would be able to fix this problem by myself with ease.

Speed Up Startup

The Windows registry is a database containing information on every single aspect of your machine. Hardware, system software, installed software and user settings all depend on the entries made in the registry. Over time however, those entries build up. Some become corrupted, some go missing, and many of them become unnecessary. This is where your computer starts to suffer. As with any database, the less entries there are, the faster it will generally run. And corrupt entries are a killer. Without maintenance, over time your computer will slow greatly. In fact, most slow computers that end up getting replaced could have been brought back to life through registry maintenance. Luckily, getting your registry fixed up isn't hard.

Windows XP Slow Startup

A Slow startup, load time and shutdown are caused by broken registry in your windows. Actually, a broken windows registry can create much more trouble than you can ever imagine. So what are those? Windows registry is the core file of your windows operating system. They rule over your system and make sure that your computer runs exactly you wanted them to. Sadly they are easily corrupted and congested. Fact is, whenever you add or remove program or hardware, they will grow in size or become corrupted.
Oversized and corrupted registries can prove very irritating for you. However they may not be removed or altered except you really know what you are doing. What I am saying is... Do not manually alter or delete it yourself! One small mistake and your computer will not even start. Forcing you to lose all your precious files and you have to reinstall windows and it's components.

So to fix a slow XP startup you must access the registry and remove all the useless files and programs. But before you just go in there guns blazing let me offer a word of caution. I hope you know what you are doing. Because if you don't, messing with the registry can cause some serious damage. The Windows registry is a very sensitive directory that can corrupt if the wrong files are removed.
This is why I recommend using windows registry repair software. The program that I use will list all of your startup programs, tell you what they are, and give you the option to remove them with a click of the mouse. This will get your computer to startup faster than ever before. The software will also remove redundant files and fix corrupt registry problems that also contribute to a slow startup.

Slow Vista Startup

Windows Vista has had a hard time gaining popularity since its release. I bought a brand new lap top about six months ago with the windows program. After only a couple months I noticed the degradation of my system. It wasn't running nearly as efficiently as it was when I first purchased it. I didn't expect this to happen, this early in my relationship with my computer. The worst thing was the slow vista boot. The slow vista startup took what seemed like forever to get started. I would turn on my computer, then proceed to brush my teeth and eat breakfast, and sometime in the middle of my breakfast the computer would be ready to go. This was an everyday routine.

How To Update Drivers

Before you learn why having up-to-date drivers is vital to your computer, you should understand exactly what a device driver is. You can think of it as a kind of miniature program, or group of files, that acts like a translator altering the output from one device into a language that another device can understand. For example, your keyboard, mouse, monitor, sound card, graphics and video cards and many of your software programs all require drivers in order to function correctly.

Legacy Audio Drivers

If you are experiencing trouble with your legacy audio drivers, you've come to the right place. Microsoft's helpful technical support will tell you that a simple uninstall and reinstall will resolve the problem, but I'm here to tell you that’s not very helpful after all. While it may work in some instances, the problem likely lies deeper.
Your legacy audio driver is essential to you if you plan on listening to any sound at all on your computer - from websites, from movies, from games or from music CDs. When this driver, or translator, is corrupted or missing files, you will experience no sound from your speakers. The driver acts as a translator between your device - your legacy sound card in this case - and the motherboard on your PC. Without it, the two cannot interact because, essentially, they do not speak the same language.
