Your computer is much like you. While it is capable of doing multiple things at once, it really just does a little of each thing at a time, juggling back and forth between tasks. Just like when you have a conversation over dinner, you stop talking when you take a bite, chew, etc. Your computer works the same way. It uses the system memory as the space in which in conducts the tasks, and gathers information to conduct the tasks from the hard drive. Then the software allows the computer to take your instructions, and manipulate the data on the hard drive with the memory. So the three areas where you can speed up your computer are the memory/processor, hard drive, and software.
