Update Sound Drivers for XP

In today’s world of media on demand, one of the most annoying things that can possibly happen to you is to have your PC or laptop refusing to play any audio. Barring a hardware failure, the most common cause of audio problems, especially on a computer running an older operating system such as Windows XP, is problems with the audio device’s drivers.

Drivers are the software that allow your devices to be recognized and used by your computer and OS. Without the proper drivers installed on your computer, none of your devices or peripherals would ever work properly. For this reason, manufacturers bundle a CD or DVD containing the appropriate drivers, or at the very least, include instructions as to where you can download them.

These drivers are especially important to an old OS like Windows XP, which often requires that drivers be installed before most devices can be used with it. On newer versions of Windows such as Windows Vista and Windows 7, a lot of peripherals and devices are plug and play, requiring no driver installation process at all.
