How To Get Rid of Blackheads – Getting Rid of Blackheads Quickly

It’s not technically a pimple or a zit, and it’s not raised above the surface of the skin, but it’s still considered acne and it’s still gross. Especially when they come in groups, like they tend to do. Blackheads can be just as embarrassing as their white counterparts or their huge red bumpy friends. If you are prone to them, you’re probably anxious to know how to get rid of blackheads, and quickly! Getting rid of blackheads may seem like the most important goal, but wouldn’t you rather prevent blackheads from showing up altogether?

How is a blackhead different from a pimple or a whitehead?

Blackheads are enlarged pores called comedones that are plugged with bacteria, dead skin cells and sebum, the oil our pores produce. They don’t generally rise above the skin but stay level with the skin’s surface. The pores remain open and the outside layer turns brown or black when mixed with oxygen. Whiteheads and pimples have a closed opening, which traps the sebum mixture and causes swelling and inflammation, and ultimately makes them harder to remove.
